Anna is still here (they leave Monday morning) and the girls are having an absolute blast together. It makes me sad we don't live closer because Sophie's missing out on getting to know her cousins and the rest of the family.
One of the things that has just surprised me to no end is she looks so big compared to Maddy. I don't remember Sophie ever being as small as Maddy and that makes me sad. I know she was since I have photos and videos to prove it, but I swear those memories are completely lost without the digital images.
Tonight, the girls took a bath together. I might post a picture later but the camera is currently in the office charging and I don't care to get the card out of it right now. I hope to remember to get more pictures of Maddy tomorrow while the girls are playing. She's such a giggly little girl, so I'll try to catch a couple videos as well.
Heh, I don't want them to leave. :(

I have pictures to share... later.
For now, two videos, some random info, a link, and a request.
Thanks to

Thanks to

Attention Devo fans... and Yo Gabba Gabba fans: Heh, Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo is the Mark who draws on Yo Gabba Gabba! I found this out a while ago and completely forgot to mention it. That show is just chock full of goodness.
More for my own reference than anything else, this is a handy little zipper tutorial, shared with me by
msbluerasp. Thanks! I think I will have to make a few of those little pouches. :)
Request: This is a request for anyone on my f-list or not, whoever wants to participate. I know there are some music fans out there who might enjoy this project.
First, let me give a little background... I don't have a problem with most music made for children. I would just like to have other options for when people who might not have children are with Sophie and me in the car (or when B tires of Sophie's music). We love all sorts of music, and the For the Kids series is one of our favorites. We also love Ralph's World and They Might Be Giants.
Now, for the actual request:
Create a CD of music YOU like that is suitable for children's ears. Please, no swearing, no illicit drug use, no crazy sex references, etc.. Remember, The Kritter isn't even two yet. ;) I don't really want her running around singing "Nookie" or "Don't Marry Her" around the neighbor kids. Please have the playlist contain roughly 15 songs or so. Most importantly, please explain why you made the selections you did. Just post them (artist and song) as a comment to this entry. Feel free to create an album cover and label the compilation if you'd like. Go nuts with this!! Show me your creativity! :)
Edited to Add: I meant to mention the new Knitty is up. Yay! I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but it's on my list of things to do today.

... how I do love Stephen Colbert. Thank heavens for new episodes. The WØRD on Tuesday was excellent! Unfortunately, there isn't a clip of it up on Comedy Central's website.
After Monday night's reruns (as well as last week's reruns), I wasn't expecting anything new tonight. I'm glad I actually tuned in. It was very much worth it.

This entry is going to be even more all over the place than other random entries... I think. Watch, I'll get to the end and realize I didn't really have anything to post in the first place. That's always fun.
For those of you looking for a new home in the DFW area, this little site is one of the coolest MLS searches I've seen... ever. I wish there was a site like this that would search the entire country. I know there are other areas who use this company (Diverse Solutions), but they don't link together. That would be the ultimate.
Yesterday, Sophie sat and colored for about two hours. Two hours! Every now and then she'd give me a crayon and ask me to color. I drew a bunch of shapes for her and she tried to color them in! This is the reason I want a scanner. I want to be able to scan these things so I don't have ten thousand papers laying around, but also so I can show my family what she's doing now. It really was too cute. She was almost heartbroken when I took away the crayons so she could eat dinner.
Tonight we are having Thai chicken with peanut sauce. Of course, it's a Dream Dinners meal, but I'm still looking forward to it. B will probably hate it, unfortunately. I wonder if I have an onion in the pantry for fried rice....
Sunday's game was incredible. I seriously should have bet on it. I knew it was going to be close and had a feeling the Giants were going to win, but I was afraid it was just wishful thinking. Any team that gets light penalties for cheating and drug abuse and continues to win games regardless, and then has the audacity to actually trademark the phrase "19 and 0" needs to be taken down a notch or two. After watching how cocky some of the Pats were on the field, I was very pleased when Eli had a shining moment at the end and helped his team pull off a major victory. Sorry Pats fans, it's not your fault and this isn't against you.
I have to admit, the commercials just haven't been as good as they used to be, though. There were a few worth noting, I think Coke, Pepsi, E*Trade, and possibly a few others were pretty decent. I think Budweiser will have a tough time trying to beat the frog commercials, although I did like their commercial this year (hasn't that one been aired before?).
I have a couple memes to post (one from my mother, of all people), but I'll put them in a separate post... whenever I get around to doing them.
I need to go get the child out of bed now, since she has awakened from her nap and is currently giving herself "boops," I'm guessing on the nose.
( The rest of the post (pictures and videos) will be behind a cut, just to be nice. )

- It's rather exciting that NBC is picking up an American version of the BBC favorite, Top Gear, but I am so disappointed Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are all begging off. There are no Americans who will be as cool as those three.
- I don't know that there can be anything clear about politics, but Real Clear Politics is certainly giving it a try.
- .
- Tickets have been purchased for the March 4 TMBG concert. I'm looking forward to it!
- Sophie will now have an "I love you" battle. She'll say "I love you, Mommy (or Daddy)" and if we respond with "I love you, Sophie," she'll repeat what she said. The more she repeats it, the more frustrated she gets. It's terribly cute (especially with her tiny little voice) and just doesn't get old.
- I think after Good Eats, The Colbert Report is probably my favorite show on television these days.
- I have not met a Simply juice I haven't liked (yet).
- Someone in one of my knitting communities was kind enough to share a link to Yarndex. I've been looking for something like this for a while now.
- I had a rock, but I think it fell through the hole in my bathrobe pocket.

cold - sm00sic:They Might Be Giants - Then: The Earlier Years (2 of 2) - 6 - Where Your Eyes Don't Go
- Apparently the current Miss America is from my home town. Ooh.
- Blue's Clues still rocks after all these years. I'm even getting used to Joe (Steve's replacement). Blue's Room, on the other hand... well, the jury is still out on that one.
- .
- Sophie is now a climber and a bouncer. Unfortunately, she likes to climb and bounce together. This could be a problem in the future.
- Speaking of the Kritter, she didn't go to sleep last night until well after 10:00 PM. She also didn't wake up this morning until almost 9:00 AM.
- TMBG is coming to Dallas House of Blues March 4. I really want to go.
- There is another (possibly the same) opening with the company that was begging me to interview at the end of the year last year. I submitted my resume again. I think it would be an interesting place to work, still using Aloha but not working for Aloha. We'll see if I get a phone call.
- I managed to get all the boats done on the baby blanket during our trip to Tennessee. I've started the cables. I love cables.
- It is seriously windy today. I would not be surprised if we lost a fence panel or two. It's warm enough to have the door open, too (although it's about to be closed).
- Words of Wisdom from today's Yo Gabba Gabba!: Don't bite your friends.
- I have a headache, laundry to do, dishes to do, a Kritter to put down for a nap, a whiny dog, and a big ol' dirty rock.

I suppose I'm a little confused by a few aspects of the writer's strike. I understand that reality television isn't affected, nor would news casts be affected. I'm confused as to why soap operas aren't affected, though. Of course, I suppose also that it's possible they are affected and that I just wouldn't know the difference since I don't watch them and wouldn't know a show was in reruns unless it was scrolling along the bottom of the screen.
The other thing that confuses me is all the people who pirate movies stating they're supporting the writer's strike. I mean, I get that piracy doesn't really have anything to do with the strike (right?). but it does have something to do with money and DVDs and such. Wouldn't that thereby put the movie pirates in the little boat of hypocrisy? Maybe there's something else I'm missing. I'm sure there is.
I seriously do not recall this happening years ago, but I read somewhere that the last strike was 21 weeks back in 1988 (I think that's what I read, at least). It's funny, because I thought I was addicted to the television then. Perhaps I was but didn't mind the reruns, or perhaps I just don't remember the reruns. This time around, the strike really hasn't affected me since most everything we watch is some sort of news cast or reality television (Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, etc.). All of the Alton shows I ever watch are already in rerun anyhow, so that was also no big deal (although I think I heard something about him having the whole season done anyhow). The only thing we really wound up missing was The Colbert Report, but that's back up now (his show last night was excellent, by the way).
Anyhow, I'm guessing I don't really quite understand what all is going on in Hollywood, but that's no surprise to me. I've never been big on celebrity gossip or television chatter (it doesn't bother me, just not something I ever think to do anymore). Maybe I'm just way out of touch.
I'm very wheezy. I love it.

I was watching an episode of That 70's Show the other day and all the kids were sitting around trying to decide on a quote for their senior yearbook. We didn't have quotes, so this was a bit foreign to me, but the way I understood it to be is they were trying to select a quote that would be placed under their senior year photo. Kelso popped up with "What a long strange trip it's been," and everyone gave him grief about it being the most overused quote in history.
While I might enjoy the music of the Grateful Dead, I don't know that I've ever heard Truckin' before. Up until seeing this show the other day, I don't know that I've ever even noticed that line anywhere else before, either. Since then, however, I've seen it in print at least twice. I believe once was in the most recent Sunday Startlegram (Star-Telegram for you purists out there), and the other time was in one of B's magazines (I think it was Time 10/08/07).
They really weren't kidding when they said it was the most overused quote in history.

Years and years ago, I think either during my senior year of high school or perhaps during my first two years of college (it all sort of blurs together, but basically somewhere around '89-'92), I was watching some small beans comedy show on late night television with a friend. There was a comedian on there who was a ventriloquist and we both thought he was quite possibly one of the funniest guys we'd ever heard before. I couldn't remember his name and was so disappointed because I never saw him again after that one little show.
Well, until recently, that is.
I honestly believe Jeff Dunham has to be one of the funniest guys ever. EVAR! No, really. Check him out if you haven't already, and be prepared to laugh lots. :)

I have succumbed to the craziness that is Yo! Gabba Gabba. I don't normally let Sophie watch Nick Jr. because of the crappy commercials they have, but she loves this show. I have to admit, I'm not opposed to watching it, either. I don't like it as much as Between the Lions, but I don't hate it as much as Sponge Bob, either. ;)
Besides, who can hate anything that has a tummy party song?

I am so tired of seeing Simpsons everywhere. There was a time years ago when I actually liked The Simpsons, back when they were still on the Tracy Ullman Show. I even recorded the first season of The Simpsons in its entirety because I loved the shorts so much on the Tracy Ullman Show. After the first season I lost interest, and now whenever I try to watch it I just become aggravated that it's even still on the air.
I do like some of Matt Groening's other work. I'm not overly fond of Futurama, but I love Life in Hell. I'm a little disappointed Groening decided to not use Life in Hell on the Tracy Ullman Show.
At least people aren't still saying "Eat my shorts" all the time.

I was a little concerned when we tried to watch Between the Lions this past week and found some cheesy show about New York instead (very much not something in which a very young child would take interest). Thankfully, someone from KERA emailed me to let me know they will have it back on June 11. Why the hiatus? I'm not sure, but I'm certainly glad to see that it's coming back.

I would love to donate to KERA, but there are a few things holding me back. While I love that they show Sesame Street (even though the new Sesame Street gets on my nerves) and Between the Lions (seriously, watch it if you haven't already - it's awesome!), they have several shows that greatly annoy me. I don't believe some of the shows they're airing have any real educational worth, and some may even encourage bad habits or traits. I know they have other educational shows besides Sesame Street and Between the Lions, but the shows that annoy me bother me enough to prevent me from supporting them.
I have decided that I will donate time and/or money when they give Signing Time! a better time slot and add more educational shows. What ever happened to The Electric Company or 3-2-1 Contact? Those shows were awesome! Why can't they have more shows like Polka Dot Door and Mr. Dressup? What about shows like Romper Room?
Now I just need to write to KERA and tell them how I feel. Man, I am so opinionated! ;)
What were your favorite educational shows while growing up?
I think Captain Kangaroo is still one of my all time favorites. I miss Picture Pages and Simon a lot.
Ahh, to be a kid again!

- Being sick is no fun.
- We made the jump to Cingular (the new AT&T). We'll see how it goes.

- Easter went well, but nothing terribly exciting to report.
- We skipped Scarborough this past Saturday due to cold (and SNOW!).
- I'm trying to get Sophie's pictures taken in a field of bluebonnets for her first birthday (seems appropriate).
- Invites are nearly ready to be sent. I have a few left to assemble and then I need to address the envelopes and wait for the stamps to arrive.
- There is a pound of ground beef in my refrigerator that doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up.
- Sophie is starting to sign more and more each day. Click here for a cool ASL site.

gan_chan: Internet CAPTCHAs - I love this site! - My new favorite show for children: Between the Lions
- There are two new TMBG albums to be released this year: The Else and Here Come the 123's.

Hmm. I think that's all I've got.

I have to say Disney's line up of shows really isn't half bad, even if there are some shows that annoy me. They like to work with They Might Be Giants, so they can't be all bad, right?
One of the little mini shows between their regular shows (no commercials in the morning - possibly all day but we don't watch it that long - isn't that nice?) is This is Daniel Cook. It's incredibly cute and very informative, and of course, NOT created by Disney. It's a CBC show! Well, not a CBC show exactly, but it's Canadian and that's close enough for me. In all honesty, the CBC is one of the many reasons I would love to move back to Michigan. There's no Mr. Dressup outside of the CBC (or at all anymore, for that matter). I think my sister was telling me about another show on the CBC that was really great for kids as well. The Doodlebops are also shown on CBC.
In any case, Daniel Cook - check him out. Good stuff, I promise.
Oh, and Charlie and Lola (shown on Disney, but not CBC and not Disney - it's from the UK and terribly cute!) is another favorite. Even B thinks it's cute.
We don't turn on the television much earlier than Handy Manny (which Sophie watches - she dances to the songs) and she really only watches bits and pieces here and there. I think we have Disney on for an hour or so and I probably watch it more than she does.
Ok. I really need to get out more.
