For this quiz, we need to identify a famous inhabitant of each of these houses, either past or present. Quite honestly, if you can just tell me what these locations are, I can probably find a past or present inhabitant on my own. ;)
For example: If the first picture was the White House, the answer would be "1 - George W Bush" or whichever past president/first lady you might select.
This quiz will run until midday GMT on Monday.
Even if you only recognize one or two then please submit your answers as I can use all the help I can get (I don't know even ONE).
I'll be screening comments.

Amazingly, I got most of my guesses right. There were a few questions where I recognized the story/image but didn't know the answer, and even fewer where I knew the answer spot on. Heh, the main reason I knew most of this stuff is because B passes it along.
And now, a poll:

Would you be interested in participating in some sort of match up in my LJ, where friends possibly make other friends?
If I were to do some sort of match up, how would be the best way to go about it? Should I use polls, spotlight those interested, invite people to post comment 'ads', or something else entirely?

You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. ![]() You got 10/10 questions correct. It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors. If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs. As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human. And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes. The It's Its There Their They're Quiz |
To those of you who missed my grammar rant, please don't be offended or worried I will tear anyone apart for bad grammar. We found that the house on North Park will require a much larger amount of work than we had originally guestimated. The flooring throughout the house needs to be replaced (we knew that). The kitchen pretty much needs to be gutted except for the cabinets. Both of the full bathrooms need to be completely redone (the half bath is in decent shape minus the floor). There is some water damage in the kitchen, garage, master bathroom, and upstairs bathroom. Two windows are cracked and the windows in the master bedroom have lost their seal. All screens will need to be replaced. One of the panels in the garage door will need to be replaced. There is a great deal of wood rot around the outside of the house. One corner of the house is experiencing the beginnings of foundation issues. The banister will need to be replaced. All lighting, fan, and sink fixtures need to be replaced. The HVAC would most like need to be replaced, including duct work (furnace may still be in good condition, though). Every room will require paint on every wall and ceiling. The fireplace will need to be sealed before it is usable again. The security system will probably need replacing since it's looking pretty damn old. The fence will need to be replaced almost all the way around. Kent estimated roughly $30k in extra work and that was interior alone. We have no idea what the plumbing or electric is like.
While tearing out the kitchen, I would honestly love to see the cabinets come out. I'd also love to completely redo the master bath. I don't want to do a half-assed cheap job on either of those, but there is no way we would be able to afford what we really want, not right now, at least. I would love to see wood flooring throughout the entire first floor, except in the entryway, kitchen, and bathrooms. Tile would be perfect for those areas. I think the stairs would look great with wood, with a 3' strip of wood on the landing and then into both bedrooms, with tile in the upstairs bathroom. The landing itself (minus that 3' walk-way) would have an office-friendly carpet installed. I think we would need to replace the water heater with something a little more substantial, most likely a tankless water heater. There are some minor drywall changes we would like to make (wall in the second door on the upstairs bathroom, move the closet door in the gold bedroom, possible change to the pantry in the kitchen). Eventually, we'd like to tear up the cement in the back yard and possibly put in a pool. The front window seat (since the wood needs to be replaced anyhow) would be the perfect place for a box seat for storage (I guess plants would be out of the question there as Chui would certainly claim that window seat for his own). I would love to see a new security system put in as well as a sprinkler system.
What bothered me most about this house is knowing it was a pre-foreclosure. While walking through the house, we found little notes strewn about. It looked like most of them were from the little girl who used to live there. It appears the family fell on hard times, and it truly breaks my heart to see there were children affected by this. There were several bottles of alcohol left behind (mostly emptied), my guess in a poor attempt to drown out sorrows before finally leaving the house where they had lived for the past 7-8 years. In the upstairs bathroom, there was a bottle of Seagram's 7 sitting on top of a handwritten passage from Hebrews 11 (I think it was Heb 11:1 and 6, but I'm not entirely certain - see cut for passage). Taped to the inside of the closet door in the master bedroom was a note the little girl had written to her father apologizing to him in case she had done something to upset him or make him angry, apologizing for her brothers as well. From the note, it seemed like she just wanted him to be happy. It tore at my heart to see how much love this family seemed to have for each other, at least how much love this little girl had for her daddy, and how much love she thought he had for his little angel princess. When I finally got home this afternoon after all of our running around, I just cried. Between all the events today and everything we learned in that house, it was too overwhelming and I just broke down. I pray our child will be as caring as that little girl was and that she knows her mommy and daddy love her and want to do nothing more than to take care of her and make her happy. I pray she never has to go through the heartache these poor children seem to have experienced.
B's mother had gone with us and gave us her very valid and much appreciated opinions. We may not be ready for that house. The only way we could make that house work for us would be for the bank to actually loan us the amount for the house and the repairs, and for the price of the house to drop. We know we're looking at more than $30k in repairs, we just don't know how much more. That house truly has potential. It would make a perfect home for us. Unfortunately, it might just have to wait.
Click here for photos from today's walk-through. It's pretty rough.
In other news today, we went and had a 4D sonogram done and it was truly disappointing. I think we got about three pictures in 4D. I haven't even looked at the DVD yet since I was so upset about how it all went.
We still haven't watched March of the Penguins yet.
