Because Polls Are Fun!

  • May. 7th, 2008 at 10:46 AM
This is a poll basically designed to help me get a better overview of my friends list, and I thought it might be an interesting activity. My intent is not to offend anyone, so if I have, please let me know. The answers are viewable only by me, and I don't intend to share info with anyone.

Feel free to leave comments as always. Also, if you DO happen to have an Etsy site or other site (LJ or non-LJ, either way is fine) you'd like me to promote in my sidebar, please leave a comment with the link and any graphic you might want to use.

Enjoy!

Edited to add: I completely forgot Pagan and Heathen for the Religions! I thought of those while I was in the shower. Oops! Sorry guys. I really do know y'all better than I let on. I just forget. ;)

And: You guys... remind me I'm not allowed to create polls any more. I forgot about co-habitation and life partners as well (although in some states, married would work for that). I'm sure there's lots of other stuff I forgot.

For those of you stats/comment crazy people out there, sorry this is late. With my parents in town and Sophie's birthday and all, well... I've been a bit busy. I am behind on comments (backed up through the month of April) and am zipping through the f-list. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up soon.

I have a lot of very talented friends. One of these talented friends, [info]lindalee_, makes and sells incredibly beautiful jewelry. This is stuff I'm dying to buy, but must wait until I have a job. However, that doesn't mean I can't share my love of her talent with all of my friends!!

Please, visit her Etsy site. Buy from her. Stop by her journal and tell her how awesome you think her jewelry is! :)

Do it now, please!!
AND
Tell your friends, please!!
Let's spread the love, people!

From now till the end of April, BUY ONE piece of jewelry (necklace, bracelet, or earrings) and get another piece of equal or lesser value for HALF OFF!

From the profile page:

  1. There will be a topic post each week with screened comments. You will post your entry there. I will then take those entries and post them in a separate entry as "entry 1", "entry 2", etc.

  2. It would be best if you could not name names or in any way refer to yourself in your entry.

  3. You must have a REAL journal to compete (since it's done anonymously here there's no need to have public entries in your journal)

  4. You cannot post your entry in your journal until voting has closed.

  5. You cannot pimp for votes in any way.

  6. There are to be no recommended reading lists.

  7. All votes will be community only.

(there will be a weekly or daily "conversation" post where you all can meet and greet if you so desire)

(rules will be added as we figure things out)

If you've joined, awesome! Please spread the love in your own journal and encourage others to join as well.

If you haven't, but you love to write, please join. I am not the type of person to join the LJ contest communities because they're so drama laden, but based on who the owner is, I'm fairly confident there will be no drama and am hopeful this will encourage me to actually get the brain working again.

Attention required

  • I am about to post a third part to the Friending Frenzy. If you want to take part of it but haven't yet, or if you want to be listed again, please let me know! If you missed it earlier, check out Part One and Part Two.

  • This is probably one of the best personal ads I've ever read. I love it.

  • If anyone who reads these entries is interested in a few used baby items, say the word. I'd much rather ship them to someone I know for the cost of shipping that bother with listing them on Craigslist.

  • Back to the whole tag/label question: I've decided I definitely want to sell on Etsy. I want a catchy name for my handcrafted items. I plan to be all over the place with what I will make and sell (bibs, wet bags, pin cushions, stuffed toys, toothfairy pillows, stockings, anything really). I don't want to limit myself to one thing, so I want something that isn't just about babies or just about holidays, etc. Now, it's been brought to my attention (and I completely agree) that going with anything related to sm00bs would most likely cause confusion since even a lot of my friends don't realize those are zeros in my name. It's also been brought to my attention (again, I agree, which is why I asked about it in the first place) that the Sugar Nook names tend to make people think of sweets of some type (or porn...). Names like Tiny Treasures have been used a bajillion and one times, so I'm trying to look for something original, but my creativity is suffering from severe... emptiness, I suppose. Once again, I'm going to ask for your suggestions. Feel free to ask questions if you think it will help you help me brainstorm.

  • I feel quite blah today.

That is all.

Massive amounts of Randomosity

  • Mar. 20th, 2008 at 6:03 PM
Blah.

  • Job hunt equals much frustration and serious self-confidence destruction and minor depression.
  • Next round of the Friending Frenzy to follow shortly. If anyone else wants in on the action, let me know. I have at least two more people interested.
  • .
  • Thank heavens for new Signing Time videos. Sophie is being terribly cute by searching the house for Hopkins (the frog) right now. I love that kid to pieces!
  • I will eventually get around to responding to the recent post/poll about the crafts. I greatly appreciate all of your responses, even if it was to just vote in the poll. That helps me tremendously.
  • Someone once asked how my username came about. I believe she said something like, "What exactly is a 'sm00bs'?" Well... here's the answer, because I know you're all dying to know. Back in the day, I used to have an AOL account (I mean, really back in the day). I had fun hanging around in the chat rooms there and came up with the screen name of Sm00chies. No idea why, but that's what it was (Smoochies was already taken). In the chat room I frequented, people often called me Sm00 or Sm00byDoo. Sm00byDoo stuck when I moved over to IRC (yes, I'm that sort of geek), so that was my original nick there. Of course, one of my dear friends always called me sm00bs and eventually I caved and just changed my nick permanently. I assumed he just called me sm00bs because it was a shorter version of Sm00byDoo. Apparently, while that was part of it, it wasn't the whole reason. Yes, it had something to do with boobs, even though he'd never seen mine (still hasn't). Silly boys. It's not a very exciting story, but there it is. I kept it because it was my name for years before I started LJ. I tried using ellemenno at one point, but just couldn't get into it.
  • I will hopefully be posting about some of the recent campaigns for BzzAgent. I now have two cans of Oust, a Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner, and coupons to Chili's for free burgers. I'm going to do a little poll to see what opinions other people have of these products soon.
  • If any of you are looking for good music in podcast form, perfect length to burn on a CD for a car ride, check out [info]starpush's monthly release of Soundtrack. This last Show, Class Is in Session, is excellent! I know some of you share my taste in music, and even B found this show entertaining. I highly recommend it!
  • One of these days I'll get around to playing with icons. I think I need a little play time.
  • It's time to get really serious about my sewing. I might even take a class or two. The more I think about it, the more I want to make the Etsy thing work.
  • Eventually I'll get some pictures and videos posted of Sophie. I just have to get the videos uploaded and go through the pictures.
  • Gah. Much stress weighing be down right now.

Carry on.

Thanks for all the help!!

[info]boyzici has posted the results for last week's quiz. Thank you to ALL of you who helped out. You guys managed to score a total of five points for me!! Yay!! I'm going to go back and unscreen all of the comments, but I won't be replying to them since all of the answers are here (I know, go me for being lazy, right?).

The answers are:

2. Gordon Brown (No. 10 Downing St)
3. George Washington (Mount Vernon)

Okay, here we go again with the poll...

First, a little explanation as to why I'm changing the options.

[info]lindalee_ mentioned that using 00 in whatever name I select might lead to confusion, and she's very right. Ever since I've been using this name, there's always been a bit of confusion. I don't want to carry that over to a possible website or something for people to search since they might not realize they're zeros.

I believe [info]pensivesea mentioned that Tiny Treasures is a little overused and she's very right. I was actually doing a search on it as she was typing her comment and I found a mess of sites all related to baby items or daycare and don't really want to have to compete with that (or run into legal issues with it, for that matter).

Now, that out of the way, I suppose we'll be starting over here. I'm so anxious to get these ordered! I think my biggest problem right now is coming up with a cute logo. Any artist out there care to offer up any cute and adorable designs? :)

Poll #1155642
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

Which name would you suggest for tags for sewn items that might possibly be sold at some point?

View Answers

Sugar Nook Boutique
6 (50.0%)

Sugar Nook Crafts
4 (33.3%)

Sugar Nook
2 (16.7%)

Other (please take into consideration the points mentioned above)
0 (0.0%)

If you selected Other, please list your suggestion here.

Also, don't forget the Friending Frenzy! If your name is listed in the main entry, make sure you've added a comment about yourself. If your name is not listed in the main entry but you're interested in joining in the fun, let me know because there will be another round.

I need to do a post about a few Bzz campaigns I'm doing. I'll be giving away some coupons for free products if anyone is interested. I haven't decided if I want to do a trivia quiz or just a first comment first serve type of thing. I need to do it soon, though!

I have videos and pictures to post if I ever get around to it. We're either having issues with our router or our ISP and any pictures we host here cannot be seen by anyone else. It's becoming highly annoying.

[info]winter_in_asia has posted an entry about no content in his journal for those of you upset by recent LJ changes. I know at least one or two people on my f-list are upset by this, so please take the time to check out his entry and join in if you wish. It might be a slow day for the Salmon....

Does anyone have ideas for other items I might be able to sew quickly and sell? Thanks to [info]msbluerasp, I've added zippered pouches and pincushions to my list of things to try. I'm guessing I could probably do placemats and napkins as well. I've also considered making simple purses of some sort. I'm really thinking about setting up an Etsy account and selling the bibs and all the stitch markers I've made so far, and was trying to come up with anything else I might want to add to the mix there.

We'll be fish sitting this week for Thomas the Beta, our neighbor's fish. Exciting, no? I think it will be interesting for Sophie to see another fish other than the ones we have at least.

Okay, I think that's it for now.

Quick bit of LJ and Open ID news

  • Mar. 17th, 2008 at 9:44 AM
Apparently now whenever someone uses Open ID to post a comment, there is an LJ ID assigned to them. It is actually possible to add the person using Open ID to your f-list so if you have friends who use other means for blogging and have the Open ID option, I think they can still subscribe to f-locked posts without having to get an LJ account! I'm not sure if that's actually the case or not, but I still think it's cool I can add Open ID users to my f-list.

If you look at my f-list on my profile, you'll see sweetdaisy.blogspot.com (she was my best friend in grade school... was heartbroken when she moved away). Her LJ ID came up as ext_87965 when I received a comment notification in the mail, so you can see how I was able to add her to my f-list.

Seriously, how cool is that?

Now, Rob... when you leave a comment here, use your Blogger ID! :)

I know it's no longer the 15th (speaking of which, I missed the Ides of March entirely this year... how the heck does that happen?), but these stats are from March 1 through March 15.
