Sophie has the chicken pox.

At least she's been immunized (one shot, can't remember if it's a two shot deal or not) so it's a mild case, but B has never had chicken pox nor has he ever been immunized. I've had the chicken pox twice (both mild cases) and can get it again (and most likely will, I'm sure), but it should be a bad case if I do.

Ugh. Looks like I'll be canceling Dream Dinners again this Saturday.

Thankfully, she doesn't seem to be affected by it.

sounds exciting hope you all make it through. personally i don't understand this chicken pox shot either. i see lots of kids who get the shots and still get it. shrug.

Yeah, the main reason I even bothered with it was because B hadn't had it yet. Pft. I should have just skipped it. It doesn't matter how severe a case *she* has. If she's contagious and he gets it, his can still be rather severe.

Fun times.

Thanks!

Keep a careful eye on B -- chicken pox in adults can be dangerous.

Yeah, I know. I called him as soon as we found out and he's supposed to make an appointment to see his doctor. I hope he actually listens to me for a change.

My son got the shot and had two mild cases of chicken pox. It was crazy. I hope that everyone feels better:)

Aww...hope she gets better soon! I've never had it...which was horrible for me when I worked in Pharmacy and people would bring their kids in...

You might want to consider immunization if you're in a position to be around it again.

Thanks!!

Hey! I'm sorry she's sick. However, the chicken pox vax is one that simply doesn't work. They've changed the boosters at least 3 times now (they went from no boosters, to one at school-age, to one at age 2 or 3). A lot of people have mild cases, vaccine or no. I'm guessing that the dr. is saying B should make himself scarce for 10 days? Sucks!
On the other hand, I wish I lived nearby because then we could have a chicken pox party! (I'm sure my manager would love it.)

Yeah, one of my friends asked me to a soccer game tonight and we both said it probably wasn't a good idea. Then I said that some of the moms would probably welcome it, although I have a feeling they'd rather have to deal with it over summer break or some other school vacation.

I've never had the chicken pox either. I really should go and get vaccinated for it. But I half think I am immune to it, or already had it and didn't show any symptoms.

Bottom line is... I don't want them either! *lol*

Glad to hear Sophie isn't sick or suffering any :)

Yeah, to get them as an adult is the worst. My mother had a pretty rough case, but hers wasn't nearly as bad as the neighbor lady's down the street.

I hope B doesn't get it, and that if he does he doesn't wind up with shingles. Yucko.

Thanks!

I never gave Erynn the vax for it because it had just came out and I get nervous with "new" things. My friend's child had the vax and got chicken pox the same time Erynn did..and it was a more mild case. Apparently the vax just lessens how extreme it is. I always thought it stopped them from getting it, period!
Chicken Pox in adults is supposed to be horrible, is it too late for him to get the vax?
Hope Sophie handles it well. Chicken pox=misery!

Narf, I had a whole response typed up and wound up hitting the back button somehow. *grumble*

We decided to get her vaccinated because B had never had the chicken pox before and I was unaware (failed to do my homework on this one) that she might still get the pox. Oops.

We'll know more about him getting vaccinated once he takes the time to call the doctor's office. He's being stubborn, though, I think.

Thanks!

Hopefully, if I wind up with it it shouldn't be a big deal, but I'm a little concerned about him since he's never had it. What a nightmare.

Thanks!

where could she have gotten the chicken pox? i had them when i was 5. i think i got them the last day of school. i remember them popping up one at a time. at first my parents thought maybe it was a zit, but then another and another showed up. it was weird. that's all i remember about it.
i have a friend who had chicken pox twice growing up, and when she was tested for all sorts of stuff before her invitro she was told her chicken pox immunity was low and needed to get vaccinated for it.

I have absolutely no idea. Apparently, the incubation is about two weeks. I have no idea where we were two weeks ago. Blah.

I know I only had one or two spots both times I had them, but I just wasn't thinking chicken pox for some reason. I just hope no one wound up catching it from her. I'm pretty sure I've got them again. :-\

I've heard it's been going around but I'm not sure if it's just DFW or what. I think I have a friend in the Pac NW whose kids just got it, so it could be everywhere. I hope the girls don't get it!

At least Sophie isn't terribly miserable. I, on the other hand... now that's a different story. Ugh.

Well, it appears as though I've got the chicken pox. Let's hope it doesn't turn to shingles. She's still got it pretty easy. Two new spots today but nothing else that I could tell.

I need an oatmeal bath like nobody's business.

Oh, I hope the itching doesn't get too bad for any of you. Hope it clears up quickly and painlessly.

Thanks! I'm a little concerned about the location of some of the itching. So far, it's not too bad, though. I just have to be diligent in not scratching.

I had a friend's boy get Chicken pox even though he had the shot, and he got over it SUPER fast...so I am sure she will be feeling better in NO time!

Watch you and your hubby for Shingles too...Chicken pox can translate to adults as shingles. and that hurts.

She seems to be great for now. Come to find out, B's had the chicken pox before but his mother said it was a mild case. I doubt it was as mild as mine were, so who knows. So far he shows no signs. I, however, DO have chicken pox again (great fun). So far I'm in itching hell. No shingles yet, but I have a sore patch on my leg (no rash) that seems to be thinking about it.

UGH! This is not pleasing to me.

Well... apparently she's got it easy and I'm the one who was hit with a full blown case. The spots are tiny but they still itch. I'm trying my damnedest not to scratch but it's so frustrating! I need Aveeno!
[info]kikifitz wrote:
Mar. 29th, 2008 12:50 pm (UTC)

I almost called B to stop last night because it seemed to get worse as it got later. It's not too bad now, but I would certainly welcome complete relief!

I'll tell you what, though... I'd MUCH rather have chicken pox than go through a gallbladder attack again. Yeah, the itchies are annoying, but at least it's not painful... yet. I just hope there's no shingles involved. Apparently you can get shingles when you're older if you've EVER had chicken pox. It doesn't matter when. Isn't that great to know? I never knew that!! At least you can't catch shingles from someone with chicken pox or shingles. You catch chicken pox first, and then maybe wind up with shingles later.

Thanks! I love the icon, btw. ;)

She has a super mild case. It hasn't even slowed her down. She gets one or two spots at a time and then they disappear.

Thank heavens!
