I love our crazy winter weather here. Sure, I miss the giant snowfalls and the beautiful fall colors and the obvious differences between seasons. It's days like yesterday that feed my craving for snow. However, it's days like today that make the nasty summers completely worth their torture. The thing I hated most about living up north wasn't the snow, it was how long the snow lasted. I hated the blinding glare of the sun bouncing off the white stuff, the everlasting snow banks, the slushy mess when all the massive mounds of snow finally decide to melt. Thankfully, I don't have to deal with that here. Snow in the Metroplex is typically a "here today, gone tomorrow" sort of thing, and quite honestly, that's just fine with me. By the time the sun went down the day after our "major snowstorm," the snow was almost completely gone.

Did Sophie get to play in it? :)

No, unfortunately. It was too cold and wet and we didn't have the proper clothes for her to go outside. Next year I'll make sure I have at least a pair of sweats that I can throw on her over her jeans or something (especially since we plan to go up north during the winter next year). That's the worst part about winters down here. There's not really enough wintry weather to justify buying boots and snowsuits and such. :(

She did watch the snow from the doorway and the windows with me, though. She was fascinated by it for a few minutes but didn't seem to really care too much for going outside, anyhow.

I'm coming to steal your pretty green grass;)
The grass at my house is ugly.

To be honest, the grass here should be that way as well. B put down some winter grass seed last year and regrets it now. Firstly, it came in all patchy. Secondly, he learned he has to mow all year long now. LOL If you look across the street or even in the back yard where it's not green, that's what our grass really should look like right now.

However, there are buds on the trees across the street. Spring really is around the corner. The snow was a total surprise!

Sounds a bit like a UK winter - or a North West England winter at any rate. Cold, windy wet, miserable and only a little snow.

Still, I'd prefer what we have to having snow six foot deep, because as much as I love the white stuff, you can have too much of it!

Yes, I completely agree! I lived in Minnesota for four years and I believe we had too much snow every single winter. Cars rarely could park on the street without fear of being plowed in when the plows moved the snow, or without having to park in snow banks from snow already moved. Seriously, winters there were miserable.

That sounds like my kind of snow, except that it comes with the summer heat. I like that even less.

Yeah, I'm not very fond of the heat, although after being here for several years, I think I'm getting used to it. Hot is hot, but you learn to know when to go outside and all. I'm not very happy with our new house because we don't have a covered patio, and that's preventing us from enjoying the outdoors in the summer. Thankfully, it's only for about two, maybe three months that it's really bad. Spring and fall here are incredibly beautiful and winters are very easy going. Plus, we don't have all the nasty humidity people on the coast tend to have. Yay!

I helped someone move to Austin in July once. That was quite a contrast to the 80 degrees from up here.

Thankfully, all of my moves here except for one have been in February or March. Makes for much easier moving, even if rain might crash the party. A summer time move here is pretty much a death wish. :( I feel for you (and your friend).

When I first came down to Texas it was mid September and still hotter than hell. I thought I was going to die! I was so miserable and so hating the heat. That was probably the worst summer here. We still had summer temps into October, if I remember correctly.

Good point. I really don't miss the snows we had while I was living up north because of how much snow we would get and the length of time the snow lasted.

I suppose fortunately for me this one's happening in the final few weeks of the season. Perhaps when I am in Britain next winter I won't have to deal with snow.

LOL you have no idea!

I saw how bad it was up there. Were you able to make your getaway weekend or no?

We did make it, my area was on the tail end of the big snow (we *only* got about 12 inches). It was like magic once we got into PA (10 minutes away), it practically disappeared. The real funny part was that we went up into the mountains of PA where there is usually a ton of snow, but this time that was the escape from it!

Yay!! I was worried when I saw a friend's picture of all the massive snow they got. It was piled up to the windows in between cars in a parking lot! That's a helluvalot of snow! I don't even remember the last time I saw snow like that. ;) Perhaps when I lived in Massachusetts, but I don't think so.

I hope you guys had a good time. :)
