  • Two green links to share:

  • I submitted an entry to the craft blog last night. I'm still waiting for it to post. It has pictures of the bibs, but I'm going to post the pictures here as well (click images for larger view).

  • .

  • I'm going to invest in a few books (probably mostly used) listed in this list of top 50 children's books (thanks [info]kingdavey).

  • The Great Wolf Lodge sounds like a seriously cool place to spend a weekend. One of my friends took his family this weekend. I can't wait to hear how it went since it really seems like it would be a blast.

  • A friend of a friend is trying to raise money for an emergency situation. She takes beautiful photographs. Please check them out. [info]holding_on, would you like to share some information about pricing and how to order here? I'll edit the entry if you do.

  • For those of you mystery shoppers out there, I have another legitimate mystery shopping site for you to check out.

  • For those of you still blogging for money, PayU2Blog is another site that seems to be legit (I have another friend who uses it). I haven't really checked it out, but I trust her.

  • For those of you interested in the whole BzzAgent thing but still not sure, I just signed up for three more campaigns. One is for the Scrubbing Bubbles shower spray, one is for some sort of Oust spray, and one is for Chili's burgers. I'll be posting separately about these later, but thought I'd share a little now.

  • B is playing in a Hafla tomorrow night. I'll most likely be taking Sophie unless she's a serious turkey tomorrow and doesn't nap at all.

  • TMBG is less than two weeks away!

Hmm... I've really got a lot of nothing.

I love the bibs! If Lorna was still a baby, I'd totally buy them off you!!

Aww thanks!

Someone linked me to a friend's Etsy site and she was selling bibs. It made me feel better because even with all the mistakes in my bibs, I think mine actually look better than hers. ;)

I still have a long way to go before my sewing is good, but I think these are a great practice project. They're quick and fun, too! :)

Don't forget Harold!
Borders- if you have them there- has 9 Roald Dahl books in a boxed set for $10. Awesome! We had a few, but I bought the set anyway, because there were several we didn't have. I've read probably 90% of those... and while they are good, I also think there are a lot of "fun" books that little ones should be encouraged to read. Like the Ivy&Bean books. Also, we really enjoyed the Droon books, the A-Z Mysteries and Toby is loving the Magic Treehouse series. Sometimes, it isn't about literature quality reading as it is just about READING. Ya know?

And I'm still a crazy huge fan of the McBroom stories. And The Little House. Ah.... the Little House. ...on a hill with cherry trees all around her...

For nonfics, the EyeWitness books are freakin' awesome. My kids love that kind of thing. Those are really good. Both for flipping through, and for actual reading and learning.

Btw, Sophie will have mail in a few days. :)

Oh- and, because you are an evil bad influence, I've done much on goodreads.com.

Re: Don't forget Harold!
Thanks!! I am pretty happy with them, mistakes and all. I figure the more I make, the better I'll get... we'll see. ;)

Lots of pregnant friends = lots of bibs!! :)

Re: Don't forget Harold!
I have a few Roald Dahl books here, but I'm not sure which ones I have. I'm pretty sure I have the BFG, along with a few others (no James and the Giant Peach though, for some strange reason).

Little House is a must have series for us. I'll get them for her as soon as she brings home the little Scholastic paper unless I can get a good deal on them before that. I know those little things support the schools, so... if I don't order those books through them, I'm sure I'll be ordering something else through them.

LOL I noticed the fun you've been having on goodreads.com.

Yay for mail!! She loves mail! I'll have to take a picture of her when I tell her she gets mail. She makes the craziest faces. You are so awesome! :)

The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
No no no... the Little House on the Prairie series is great, but I meant the picture book, The Little House. Look it up on Amazon. :) It is one of my all time favorite childrens books.

Also, when you have play time, dig through curledup.com for kids. Obviously, some of mine are there too, but there is a huge amount of books... from board books up through chapter books for teens, and nonfics for kids as well. I am biased, but I really do believe in her site. It is a good resource.

Re: The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
Ooh, very good to know. I didn't realize curledup.com had a kids' section. I well *definitely* check it out.

I probably skimmed and left out too much info in doing so, didn't I? Eesh. I need to stop trying to play with Sophie and keep up with email at the same time. ;)

We are currently looking at pictures from Christmas that I thought I'd lost. :) It's fun!

Yes we went with the boys..they had a blast. We went to the one up in Traverse City. They have a craft area where they do a different craft every day with the kids, they also have a story time out in the main lobby every night. You can order milk and cookies to be delivered by the wolf right to your room at bedtime. The room we got had a little cubby area with bunk beds and a tv in it for the kids so they were separate from the rest of the room. And even if you only do it once you have to let the giant bucket of water empty on you, but turn your back to the bucket because it comes out full force and doesn't feel so good on your face.

LOL! Did you guys get pictures? I'm dying to see if it's as cool as the website shows.

I'm leaning toward the Traverse City one, but that's a hike for us. I guess it all depends on who all is going.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case. I think we'll probably go at least one time when Sophie is a bit older (by a few years at least) and possibly try to get the whole family together to do it. I have to say, the rooms look pretty darn cool!!

That's what I'm thinking of doing too. Waiting until Adrienne is at least 4 or 5 then inviting the whole family for a big party...maybe Adrienne's birthday or something. :D

With us living so far away from the rest of my family, it's not easy for us to get together, and something like this might actually entice them away from their homes and on a little vacation. I'm looking forward to hearing about it from my friend when he gets back tomorrow. I seriously hope he is taking pictures!

Especially for those family members who are stuck in snow all the time. It's easy to forget when you're inside like this.

My parents used to take us to a hotel in Chatham, ON for a similar type weekend, although it was really just a hotel with two big pools, a big water slide, some pool tables, ping pong, and mini golf. ;) We still had a blast for a weekend in the middle of winter every year we went. :)

That would be awesome. I should talk Jarrett into something like that. He'd totally be up for it. We've got so much freaking snow here it's not even funny.

I think it was a Best Western we stayed at, pretty nice for the chain, if I recall correctly. I'm not sure if it's still there or not, though.

You guys aren't that far from Chatham, are you? I can't remember.

Those bibs are awesome!

Thanks for sharing the green sites...

Great Wolf lodge is a freakin blast.

And that list didn't have The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I think it deserves to be on that list. I hate The Cat in the Hat. I can't believe that made the top 50 books. And a book that is not wildly popular but deserves recognition in my opinion is Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton. It is my all time favorite Childrens Book. Oh yeah and what about A Wrinkle in Time? that was a good one. Another good one is From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler I read that one in 5th grade and have dreamed of going to New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Art ever since

*blush* Thanks! I know I still have room for improvement, but I really like the way they turned out. I'm in the process of finding a place that will make custom tags for me.

I found one of the green sites in Real Simple this month and the other from my gDiapers Yahoo! group. I bookmarked them but figured I'd probably forget about them so I'd better share them so they actually get used. My bookmarks are a little out of control. ;)

I figure if we wait until Sophie is about seven or eight years old, her cousins will be just a tad younger, and they can all go and have a grand time. Of course, there will be other cousins by then, I'm sure... Who knows. It just looks like a lot of fun, very different from most other vacations.

The list is from a Brit paper. They have strange taste. ;) [much love to my Brit friends] Some day, when I have time on my hands, I would like to compile a list of books I've read, books others recommend, and award winning books, just to share with friends. I know B&N has lists of award winners, so that part is pretty easy. I'm hoping goodreads.com will help with the rest of it. ;)

Reading that list [of books] I'm surprised at how many Enid Blyton titles there are in there, and how there's only one of the Potter books on the list!

Then again, if the list was voted for by adults, that would explain the Blyton books still being there.
[info]sm00bs wrote:
Feb. 23rd, 2008 07:16 pm (UTC)
I've never even heard of some of those books, which is the main reason I wanted to remember the list. For example, I've never heard of Enid Blyton at all. There are a lot of books I would have put on the list in place of some of the books I didn't recognize, but I'm hoping I'll be able to find some of the books I don't know so Sophie can be a little bit more well read. Heh, not sure if that makes sense or not.
[info]louenn wrote:

I'm sure you'll find Enid Blyton on Wiki. I would have thought she'd have lost popularity because she's not very politically correct and it's all very 1920's boys own style of thing.
[info]sm00bs wrote:

Yeah, but some of the not very politically correct books are the best books! ;) Some of my favorite books are on banned lists here.
